MoviesSo you don't have to sit around and look at all the films just to find the good ones, I have found all the good ones.

So here goes the first list.

    Showcased films

    • A Ninja Pays Half My Rent - This one is funny, and a good short film.
    • If you like the Lord of the Rings crew, you'll love Sean Astin's The Long and Short of it. It is a nice little film, that makes you smile. Plus the tall guy is the stand-in for Gandalf, the short chick was one of the hobbits and the average joe was one of the cameramen on the film (if I have the story correct).
    • I'm not sure however I really liked the style of this short film. The subject manner was a bit odd, however you know the guy who made this film will have a job in the next few years doing documentaries. Ocularist
    • This film makes me wish I had the patience to be an animator. So far it is the best film I have seen on the sundance website Tim and Tom

    Animation

    • Stay with this one, it gets good at the end. Bumble Beeing
    • If you like art, then you'll like this funny one Kunstbar
    • Strange but good. LOR
    • After watching all three of these, I finally got it. And just smilled. Strindberg and Helium
    • FUNNIEST FUCKING FLASH CARTOONS EVER!!!! Laid Off

So that's it. More to come later.

    Enjoy these!

    Check this out! link

Man that brings back some memories, of all that craziness that went on, around those toys back then (is that a run-on?). I especially loved the poses of the action figures (not dolls, mind you, I'll rip the head of anyone who says they are dolls).

Just thought you guys would enjoy that.

LOTR: The Two Towers Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

MoviesThose of you who know me, know that I love Tolkien. I first read the Hobbit long ago, probably in the 7th grade. Not too long after that I read the Lord of the Rings when I was a freshman in High School.

Even then I dreamed of making a live-action movie upon these fantastic novels. I dreamed of the power and knew my vision would hold-true to the power the books had on me.

I'm so glad I didn't have to make these films. It is better that a man like Peter Jackson could take the helm and the criticism and create the feeling of the books. Way better than I could, I might add.

With that, I loved the first movie. I have declared it my favorite movie of ALL TIME! Yes all time. This movie . . . well, I'll explain.

First of all The Two Towers(TTT) is the hardest to read, and figure out, in my opinion. It is full of hidden emotion, that takes a few reads and a flexible mind to figure out. It is easy to get lost in the machismo and miss the emotions behind the action and suspense.

    And now I'll say it. . . . . . I was disappointed in TTT movie.

I don't even believe it myself. I was so excited, and the beginning was amazing. It did a wonderful job of bridging the gap from the first movie. After that, it started to fall apart for me.

I really am trying to have a flexible mind regarding the movie and trying my hardest to forget that this is an interpretation of the book.
    "Forget the book Nick!"
    "Forget the book Nick!"
    "Forget the book Nick!"

    Damn! Just can't do it.

    And now I'll rant

    SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!
    • Why the hell did Aragorn fall in the river and get washed up on shore? I don't understand why they put this in the story, it didn't add anything and took time away from some of the other plots that needed some more time.
    • Faramir is a DICK! Why did they do that. He seems like a mirror of his brother, and that was plain stupid.
    • Éomer was a cocky nerd in armor that made him look foolish
    • The Ents (long time favorites of mine) were wimps! They decided not to go to war, then suddenly rallied behind treebeard because some trees were cut down. Wouldn't he have known this when they gathered at the Ent Moot???
    • Why didn't Wormtongue not see the huge army before he went inside the Orthanc? He is shown the huge army for the first time and then cries? STUPID! That just didn't work.

    END Spoilers End Spoilers

Ok I got it out! Those things really bothered me. Now I'm going to go see the movie again real soon (I've seen it twice so far) and try to have an open mind.

As of now the movie doesn't even break into my top 50. I want to cry.

    Rating: B

arloI cannot wait for The Two Towers!

I just got my confermation for the midnight showing of the movie! I am so excited. So I get to come home at 3:30 AM go to sleep then wake up and see the movie again with people at work.

I'm going to be useless to everyone next week.

On a personally sad note, my good friend Steve had to move to the Bay Area last week. I sure will miss his good coversation and encouragement.

I must say he is one of my best friends.

He had to move because he could not find a job in Portland, so he moved to Redwood City, CA with his girlfriend to live. She has a job with Stanford University.

    Good luck Steve!

arloNot to gloat, however I have been a "workin' Fool" for the past 3 days.

I love being productive. I only wish it would last, I usually end up going into a confusing lull for a few days after my super productive days are done. Then I get paranoid, then I can't sleep, then I show up to work late, then I feel like I'm going to loose my job, then I wake up early but can't get any work done, then I start to get work done then I am a workin' fool again. (how's that for a run-on sentence)

Happy Turkey Day! Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

arloI know it is late to say this, however "HAPPY TURKEY DAY!"

I might as well be the first to say "Merry Christmas" while I'm at it. But I won't.

Sonja and I had a great holliday. We did the normal dinner and too much food on Thursday with both of our families. At the dinner with Sonja's family I overheard Sonja's brother-in-law say that it was really warm at the coast that day. That was strange because anyone who has visited the Oregon Coast, it is famous for having the worst weather most of the year. So a November day that is sunny and in the upper 60s is something to take advantage of.

Luckily my mother has a clunky condo at the beach. It is old, musty and overlooks a golf tee, however it is close to the beach, and we can hear and walk to it easily.

The weather was great, and we had a fun time. We saw some friends of ours who just happened to be there, and enjoyed the sunset. Watched a ton of crappy movies and relaxed.

    A great weekend.

Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

MoviesComedian. Steve gave me a heads-up about this movie. all he said was:

"Dude, see Comedian, it is damn funny."

    That's it! Funny.

Sonja and I went out to see it last Wednesday, after cooking all night. It was great because someone pulled the fire alarm and the place was cleared out, so when they let everyone back in, they didn't check tickets. SCORE! Free movie!

We expected the movie to be a normal Seinfeld comedy show, similar to Jerry Seinfeld: I'm Telling You for the Last Time'.

Boy were we wrong. Comedian is a documentary, and a surprising good one at that. The movie documents Seinfeld's attempt to rebuild his "act" from scratch. If you didn't see "I'm telling you for the last time", you won't know that he was throwing away his act and starting over.

That didn't mean much to me at the time. I thought all comedians rebuilt their act. I guess this is not true. Comedians stick with their core act and add new pieces all the time, however a major majority of them don't stay, because they are not funny.

The documentary chronicles not only Seinfeld in small clubs but also a young comedian Orny Adams and his rise to becoming a star. Along the way Adams meets Seinfeld who passes on some advice that only another comedian would truly appreciate.

Seinfeld shows us his new act as it evolves and also has conversations in dim smoky back rooms of clubs with other comedians we all know. Including Chris Rock, Bill Cosby and a very wise Colin Quinn. Interesting to see these guys with their masks off, just talking shop, like I do every day at work.

See Comedian. It is well worth it.

    I give it an 'A'

Fall Steelhead Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

arloCaught another steelhead on Sunday (Picture). This one wasn't nearly as big as the first two, however this one gave me a lot of confidence in my fishing style.

Caught him on the Clackamas in the early morning. The timing was good, because a few minutes more and the sun would have been on the river. Usually the sun destroys the fishing for the rest of the day until sunset.

Caught him on an Olive Woolly Bugger. Not a normal steelhead fly, however my budy John, was catching them all fall on a White Woolly Bugger. I chose Olive, because I just liked the way that fly looked in the water, and I could swing and nymph the fly (if you want me to explain, emial me and I'll buy you a beer and describe the diffrence).

This buck took my fly on the drift, I set the hook and he jumped 3 feet out of the water. That was so much fun to see. I'll never forget that colorful fish poping out of the water.

He didn't put up a big fight, which was a good thing, because there was not a lot of water for him to move in. Plus, I didn't want to have to chase him down river thought that rock garden.

It was a good fight, and a beautiful fish on a beautiful morning--as you can see in the picture. John, took the picture, and after that I called it a day. Might as well leave on a good note.

Wow! That started a good week. Last night I got the best nights sleep. Glad the insomnia is over.
