    MoviesOH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!

My childhood has had a huge flashback after reading and seeing THIS!

Now I know this movie will be cool because it has Owen Wilson in it. I love him and his brother. He may look goofy as hell, however he makes me laugh. I think I was the only person who liked I Spy, and it was all because of Owen.

Oh yea, Ben Stiller is in the movie too. Why do I think these two guys team-up better than anyone. Hell Zoolander sucked until Owen showed up in the movie.

    -----UPDATE------

I just found out on the Internet Movie Database that Snoop Dog is going to be Huggy Bear! Now is that not just the fucking coolest thing you have ever heard.

I hope they bring back the reruns before the movie comes out. I so want to see that car again.

MoviesI first read Daredevil (DD) when I was 10 in '82. Back then Frank Miller was still delighting us with the horn-head. Not sure why, however DD was my man! I loved him ever since. And now the film.

What was I to think, would they screw it up? Would they get it all wrong? Would they make a Hollywood knock-off of my fav super hero. This fan-boy couldn't wait to see and find out.

First, of all they get the guy who wrote Grumpy Old Men to write and direct my man. WTF!?!?!

Next, they get Mr. Pritty-boy Ben Affleck to play the man without fear.

    WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?

OK, this was all before I saw the movie. Lets just say, they nailed it. They got the entire pain of DD's life. Well almost everything. The only thing that was way-off in my eyes was that DD NEVER kills anyone. In the comic book, the guy is almost anoying about it. I always would say "just kill the guy already!" when reading the books. Fortunately they would bring in the Punisher now and then to clean up the scum now and then. -- OK, I just had a geek-out, sorry, I won't let it happen again.

Anyway, back to the movie. Ben, does a good job as Matt Murdock, and even looks good in the red suit. I was feeling like I missed DD's speed-os over the entire thing, however I got over it.

The writing was. . . well. . . comic book-like. I guess that is a good thing. After all, we are watching a comic book hero, so life isn't supposed to be too real, if you know what I mean.

The fight scenes were well done, and Bullseye was over the top, just like in the comic book. So, Colin Farrell, kudos!.

I do think the fight with kingpin should have waited till the second movie, and that the story was rushed way too fast. This should have been two movies, in my opinion. Hopefully there will be a better cut of the movie on the DVD.

    I give it a "B".

    TTYL!

    MoviesHeya all!

I saw two movies on DVD this weekend that I really enjoyed. I wouldn't say they were "great" movies, however they both were all-around fun.

First wasThe Powerpuff Girls Movie. This movie, was a fun cartoon. If you are familiar with the TV Series and you enjoy the show, you'll enjoy this movie. The animation is excellent for the 2-d feel they want to show. The girls look a bit better and interact with their environment a bit cleaner than the TV version.

The story was fun, showing the origins of the girls. I lauged a bunch of times, just because . . . well just because it was fun to see. The game of tag and the monkies were the funniest to me (you'll see when you watch the movie).

    B+

Second movie was Undercover Brother. Another fun movie. I think the only one who would laugh at the same jokes I did, would be my friend Dave. He has the same odd sense of humor that can pick up on small details with huge underlining meanings. In other words we're super smart! :P

I won't go into movie details however David Chappelle steels the show, as Conspiracy Brother. I listened to the directors commentary and many of his lines were improv, which made them even more jewels. Eddie Griffin naied Undercover Brother. He had me love the move so much that I was saying "solid" to my wife all weekend.

About Schmidt Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

MoviesAbout Schmidt is . . . nothing does justice. I have never felt like I could see the world through a retired person's eyes before. After seeing this movie, I really appreciate the attitude of an older person. Their motivations and perspectives of the world. Watch the movie and listen to the best-man speech. It is not obvious however you will know what I mean.

Jack Nicholson does a great job of taking a role with very little dialogue that you see and making an amazing character. Most of the time we hear Jack speak, it is in narrative while he is reading a letter describing his inner thoughts. Amazing he can show more emotion in his character without speaking than most actors can do with a huge script. Jack is not playing Jack and with such a strong personality it is amazing to me that you never even feel this is the guy at Lakers games and on talk shows.

Kathy Bates does it again. Not only does she bring out an AMAZING performance, but she also restores my faith in Hollywood in one stroke. Older women in good roles are missing in Hollywood. If you are a woman who is not 20-something (or look it) with big boobs and a small ass, you are missing in most movies. Bates, shows us what a confident woman can do in this industry with a performance that overshadows Jacks. This overshadowing is just what the director wants. She is supposed to be larger than life, with too much reality built in.

Speaking of directors, Alexander Payne comes out of the shadows after his excellent movie Election. Seems like he has taken his time to show his stuff again, and I can't wait to see his next movie. He has a humor that does not take away from the seriousness of his subjects.

See this movie and learn a little bit about what it is like to see the world outside your young mind (if you are young like me). :)

MoviesSo you don't have to sit around and look at all the films just to find the good ones, I have found all the good ones.

So here goes the first list.

    Showcased films

    • A Ninja Pays Half My Rent - This one is funny, and a good short film.
    • If you like the Lord of the Rings crew, you'll love Sean Astin's The Long and Short of it. It is a nice little film, that makes you smile. Plus the tall guy is the stand-in for Gandalf, the short chick was one of the hobbits and the average joe was one of the cameramen on the film (if I have the story correct).
    • I'm not sure however I really liked the style of this short film. The subject manner was a bit odd, however you know the guy who made this film will have a job in the next few years doing documentaries. Ocularist
    • This film makes me wish I had the patience to be an animator. So far it is the best film I have seen on the sundance website Tim and Tom

    Animation

    • Stay with this one, it gets good at the end. Bumble Beeing
    • If you like art, then you'll like this funny one Kunstbar
    • Strange but good. LOR
    • After watching all three of these, I finally got it. And just smilled. Strindberg and Helium
    • FUNNIEST FUCKING FLASH CARTOONS EVER!!!! Laid Off

So that's it. More to come later.

    Enjoy these!

LOTR: The Two Towers Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
    Wednesday, December 18 2002 @ 11:56 PM
    Contributed by: Arlo
    Views: 378

MoviesThose of you who know me, know that I love Tolkien. I first read the Hobbit long ago, probably in the 7th grade. Not too long after that I read the Lord of the Rings when I was a freshman in High School.

Even then I dreamed of making a live-action movie upon these fantastic novels. I dreamed of the power and knew my vision would hold-true to the power the books had on me.

I'm so glad I didn't have to make these films. It is better that a man like Peter Jackson could take the helm and the criticism and create the feeling of the books. Way better than I could, I might add.

With that, I loved the first movie. I have declared it my favorite movie of ALL TIME! Yes all time. This movie . . . well, I'll explain.

First of all The Two Towers(TTT) is the hardest to read, and figure out, in my opinion. It is full of hidden emotion, that takes a few reads and a flexible mind to figure out. It is easy to get lost in the machismo and miss the emotions behind the action and suspense.

    And now I'll say it. . . . . . I was disappointed in TTT movie.

I don't even believe it myself. I was so excited, and the beginning was amazing. It did a wonderful job of bridging the gap from the first movie. After that, it started to fall apart for me.

I really am trying to have a flexible mind regarding the movie and trying my hardest to forget that this is an interpretation of the book.
    "Forget the book Nick!"
    "Forget the book Nick!"
    "Forget the book Nick!"

    Damn! Just can't do it.

    And now I'll rant

    SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!
    • Why the hell did Aragorn fall in the river and get washed up on shore? I don't understand why they put this in the story, it didn't add anything and took time away from some of the other plots that needed some more time.
    • Faramir is a DICK! Why did they do that. He seems like a mirror of his brother, and that was plain stupid.
    • Éomer was a cocky nerd in armor that made him look foolish
    • The Ents (long time favorites of mine) were wimps! They decided not to go to war, then suddenly rallied behind treebeard because some trees were cut down. Wouldn't he have known this when they gathered at the Ent Moot???
    • Why didn't Wormtongue not see the huge army before he went inside the Orthanc? He is shown the huge army for the first time and then cries? STUPID! That just didn't work.

    END Spoilers End Spoilers

Ok I got it out! Those things really bothered me. Now I'm going to go see the movie again real soon (I've seen it twice so far) and try to have an open mind.

As of now the movie doesn't even break into my top 50. I want to cry.

Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
    Sunday, December 01 2002 @ 07:41 PM

MoviesComedian. Steve gave me a heads-up about this movie. all he said was:

"Dude, see Comedian, it is damn funny."

    That's it! Funny.

Sonja and I went out to see it last Wednesday, after cooking all night. It was great because someone pulled the fire alarm and the place was cleared out, so when they let everyone back in, they didn't check tickets. SCORE! Free movie!

We expected the movie to be a normal Seinfeld comedy show, similar to Jerry Seinfeld: I'm Telling You for the Last Time'.

Boy were we wrong. Comedian is a documentary, and a surprising good one at that. The movie documents Seinfeld's attempt to rebuild his "act" from scratch. If you didn't see "I'm telling you for the last time", you won't know that he was throwing away his act and starting over.

That didn't mean much to me at the time. I thought all comedians rebuilt their act. I guess this is not true. Comedians stick with their core act and add new pieces all the time, however a major majority of them don't stay, because they are not funny.

The documentary chronicles not only Seinfeld in small clubs but also a young comedian Orny Adams and his rise to becoming a star. Along the way Adams meets Seinfeld who passes on some advice that only another comedian would truly appreciate.

Seinfeld shows us his new act as it evolves and also has conversations in dim smoky back rooms of clubs with other comedians we all know. Including Chris Rock, Bill Cosby and a very wise Colin Quinn. Interesting to see these guys with their masks off, just talking shop, like I do every day at work.

See Comedian. It is well worth it.

    I give it an 'A'

MoviesI saw Bowling for Columbine with Dave last night. Man what an eye opener.

I won't go into too much detail. Steve wrote a good review with details of the show. My thoghts were just as strong.

It was really nice to see an issue directed with a strong intellect. I like Moore's movies. This time he does a great job of addressing the issue of gun violence in america, without a preconception of what the solution is.

I learned a bunch, with this movie. I always enjoy a good documentary where I learn a lot about a topic. There is too much opinion in documentaries, and Moore is guilty of that. This movie removed a bunch of opinion and let the viewer find their own conclusion.

    Great movie! A+.
